Loki, Corgi of Mischief

Puppies are exhausting!

I haven’t posted anything recently because I haven’t been able to get many pictures of my little monster, Loki, because he wants to eat me.  Literally, he thinks I am his favorite chew toy.  I know this is a puppy stage, and it will pass, it’s just aggravating because he’s so little that he doesn’t quite understand when I say “NO!”  To him, that means PLAY HARDER!  So I’ve been doing like everyone says and walking away for a few to simulate what his litter mates would do if he hurt them.

Doesn’t exactly seem to phase him though. He’s stubborn.  And he wants to put everything in his mouth. Again, a puppy/teething phase but it’s hard to walk him around the yard for a potty break when he sniffs intently like he’s gonna poop and then .. hmmm what’s this leaf!  FOOD!   Or … how about that tasty ROCK!

I am the one who dubbed him Loki which is the Norse God of Mischief.  However, I was hoping it would have the same stigma as a giant dude named “Tiny” you know?  Guess that is what I get for thinking!!

I go back to work on Monday  night.  It’s gonna be interesting.  Loki likes to be up and playing at 7:30 in the morning.  Which is great for those of the world who sleep at night.  BUt for the next three weeks, I get off work between 3 and 5am.  That translates to roughly 2-3 hours of sleep a night.  He does usually zonk out for a nap about … 9:30-10:30.  I guess now I’ll be laying down with him at that time and taking naps.

My schedule changes on August 7th and I’ll be getting off at 1am most nights.  This is a far more reasonable hour for me to get a few zzzs before the monster is up and ready for his day!!   I wanted to start getting up earlier when I was off earlier anyway to get things done around the house, get my workout in, etc.

I love my puppy more than anything.  He’s stolen my heart and I never want to let him go. I am just saying I am POOPED!!!!

Speaking of poop, he’s doing really good with the potty training.  He only ever has an accident in the ex-pen if I didn’t catch that his bark meant “Let me out now!” because he’s also barking at the cats when they come by too.

Oh the cats are approaching him closer and closer, but not too much.  I’ve never let him loose to see what would happen.  I know the first time he got punched in the face by JD it would be the end of it.  I’m also a little worried that my Freddy Krueger of a cat might take out his eyeball.  (I trim JD’s nails frequently, but they grow like weeds and are razor sharp!)

It’s like having an infant.  My life is ruled by how long it has been since he went out, what time is it, should he eat, why is he quiet, is he sleeping too late in the afternoon, should he put that in his mouth, is that plant deadly to him?  I cannot wait for him to be a chill dog that hangs out and travels around with me, goes for walks and to the dog park!

He has puppy kindergarten starting August 14th.  I sure hope this helps with a lot of the stuff I am having issues with.  Namely, his unruliness!!!

Well, Loki seems to have fallen asleep after breakfast.  He was up extra early and went for a ride in the truck with Dad, maybe that wore him out.   I have to head to work for a quick overtime shift in a bit, so it will be up to Dad to make sure he goes out for his little break.

It all passes, right?!
