Loki’s nap was shortened today because I decided to attempt to make something decent out of my hair before returning to work for my first day after ‘puppy leave’. So I took him out of a his crate and we went outside to his dog run (Daddy sprayed round-up on the weeds so we can’t run freely in the yard today). Loki took a few sips o’ water and then …. flop.
Lazy Loki.
No toy or patting of my lap (truly his favorite place to sit most of the time) would get him up and moving again. And, it’s not that hot today either. Someone’s just plain tired. However, he did perk up a little when I pulled out my phone. (He’s hellbent on getting his mouth on it.)

But, his attention span was already waning ….

When he put his head back down, I went in for the cute shot. Not expecting a Godzilla attack.

My little monster. He’s now fast asleep.
I haven’t posted anything recently because I haven’t been able to get many pictures of my little monster, Loki, because he wants to eat me. Literally, he thinks I am his favorite chew toy. I know this is a puppy stage, and it will pass, it’s just aggravating because he’s so little that he doesn’t quite understand when I say “NO!” To him, that means PLAY HARDER! So I’ve been doing like everyone says and walking away for a few to simulate what his litter mates would do if he hurt them.
Doesn’t exactly seem to phase him though. He’s stubborn. And he wants to put everything in his mouth. Again, a puppy/teething phase but it’s hard to walk him around the yard for a potty break when he sniffs intently like he’s gonna poop and then .. hmmm what’s this leaf! FOOD! Or … how about that tasty ROCK!
I am the one who dubbed him Loki which is the Norse God of Mischief. However, I was hoping it would have the same stigma as a giant dude named “Tiny” you know? Guess that is what I get for thinking!!
I go back to work on Monday night. It’s gonna be interesting. Loki likes to be up and playing at 7:30 in the morning. Which is great for those of the world who sleep at night. BUt for the next three weeks, I get off work between 3 and 5am. That translates to roughly 2-3 hours of sleep a night. He does usually zonk out for a nap about … 9:30-10:30. I guess now I’ll be laying down with him at that time and taking naps.
My schedule changes on August 7th and I’ll be getting off at 1am most nights. This is a far more reasonable hour for me to get a few zzzs before the monster is up and ready for his day!! I wanted to start getting up earlier when I was off earlier anyway to get things done around the house, get my workout in, etc.
I love my puppy more than anything. He’s stolen my heart and I never want to let him go. I am just saying I am POOPED!!!!
Speaking of poop, he’s doing really good with the potty training. He only ever has an accident in the ex-pen if I didn’t catch that his bark meant “Let me out now!” because he’s also barking at the cats when they come by too.
Oh the cats are approaching him closer and closer, but not too much. I’ve never let him loose to see what would happen. I know the first time he got punched in the face by JD it would be the end of it. I’m also a little worried that my Freddy Krueger of a cat might take out his eyeball. (I trim JD’s nails frequently, but they grow like weeds and are razor sharp!)
It’s like having an infant. My life is ruled by how long it has been since he went out, what time is it, should he eat, why is he quiet, is he sleeping too late in the afternoon, should he put that in his mouth, is that plant deadly to him? I cannot wait for him to be a chill dog that hangs out and travels around with me, goes for walks and to the dog park!
He has puppy kindergarten starting August 14th. I sure hope this helps with a lot of the stuff I am having issues with. Namely, his unruliness!!!
Well, Loki seems to have fallen asleep after breakfast. He was up extra early and went for a ride in the truck with Dad, maybe that wore him out. I have to head to work for a quick overtime shift in a bit, so it will be up to Dad to make sure he goes out for his little break.
It all passes, right?!
Well, this is it. The day I have been waiting for for 7 weeks. Loki comes home today!! I cannot believe it’s finally here. Of course, there’s the apprehension of how well the cats will take having a dog in the house. I know they will eventually adjust. It’s just going to be a rough few days.
I wanted to start this blog when we first picked out our little munchkin. Unfortunately, tumblr is blocked at work so I couldn’t even begin to map it out in the wee hours of the morning while I was there. So here I am starting on Loki’s first day home. The day our life is going to change.
Loki is 10 weeks old today. He’s a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. A red-headed tricolor with an odd eye or one blue eye for those non AKC folks. His blue eye would make him undesirable in the show ring but you know what? I picked him out because of his blue eye. I had been thinking of the name Loki from the moment we decided to get one of Bill’s Corgis and when we saw the blue eye, it just fit. Besides, I hate that he would be considered less than worthy due to something out of his control.
We have been over to visit with him several times, not as much as I would have liked but I work at night and our breeder works during the day so … our schedules only meshed on the weekends. Alas, we have had some time to visit and play with our little man before today so we won’t be total strangers.

This was the group photo … the first glimpse of the little rug rats. We thought that we were getting the one on it’s back. Loki has a great big white blaze over his head however, the one playing with the razzles toy is our little one. He has a stripe that runs to his left shoulder.

Here’s our first picture of Loki. He was so SMALL!!!! But, it was the photo that had me leaning towards him before I ever even met them.
I’ll post more in a bit, for now, I have to get ready to go pick up my baby Loki!!!!!!
